"COLORS international project" of French Research National Agency (ANR)

In this project, we develop control methods and strategies for the optical localized structures arising in nonlinear passive optical experiments such as shaping the patterns, switching between different coexisting structures, displacing them transversally, or else controlling rare intense events (such as optical rogue waves) that can occur in spatiotemporal systems and that can have dramatic consequences. The research will imply to a large extend fundamental studies, both theoretical and experimental, on the nature of the structures under investigation and on the definition of their distinctive features. It will imply as well technological developments on the control of optical structures, such as controlling their dynamics by using convectively traveling regimes, increase or decrease the degree of interaction, shaping a single structure or clusters of them, studying the effects of inherent noise on their dynamics, controlling spatial extreme events. Therefore, we expect that the results of the project will also have an impact on future applications in the field of optical control and optical storage. As mentioned before, we plan to study the statistics and properties of spatial localized intense events in different experimental configurations such as cavity and feedback systems. More specifically, we will explore their localization properties as well as the influence of the convective nature of the system in their statistical properties.

"Contrôle et manipulation de la localisation de la lumière dans les systèmes spatialement étendus, stochastiques et convectifs international project" (2011-2014) of ECOS Sud program.

The project involves localized states in spatially extended systems that are both convective and stochastic. It is a new field of investigation where numerous studies have to be carried out.

Labex CEMPI project (2012-2020)

The ``Laboratoire d'Excellence'' Centre Européen pour les Mathématiques, la Physique et leurs interactions (CEMPI) was created in the context of the ``Programme d'Investissements d'Avenir'' of the French government in February 2012. It brings together the talents and expertise of the Laboratoire de Mathématiques Paul Painlevé and the Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers, Atomes et Molécules (PhLAM), two research units of the Université Lille 1 and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).

We are involved in THE INTERFACE OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS theme. This area concerns a number of key problems of a mathematical, physical or technological nature, coming from the study of complex behaviour in non-linear optics, and in particular in optical fibers. The better understanding of these phenomena that will result from the interdisciplinary research at CEMPI will have interesting spin-off effects for ultra-fast communication technology. Technology transfert will be accentuated by the creation fo an associated laboratory with Draka (Calais), the world largest optical fiber producer.

 

IAP Photonics@be network (2012-2017)

Photonics@be is an Interuniversity Attraction Pole financed by BelSPO, the Belgian Science Policy Office. The activities of the network are organized around different themes. Different members of the different groups will be part of a given work package. We are involved in WP4: Smart light processing.
